Reviewing and Publication Guide

When submitting a manuscript to JAGI, an author can choose between a public review and a private review.

The public review process is specified in the following:

  1. After a submission is uploaded in the submission webpage, it is sent to the Executive Editor on duty for initial screening. The Executive Editor can reject the submission if it is obviously unsuitable for publication in JAGI.
  2. If the submission passes the screening, the Executive Editor assigns it to an Action Editor. Unless the Action Editor returns it to the Executive Editor with a request of re-assignment, the submission becomes the duty of the Action Editor.
  3. The Action Editor will either reject the submission, or start its review process by display it to the public in the "under public review" region of the website.
  4. The submission begins to get comments and evaluations from the community, and the Action Editor can stop the process and make the final decision at any time.
  5. Partly depending on the initial community response, the Action Editor decides whether and when to invite some referees to join the discussion, who will provide their evaluations and comments just like other community members.
  6. The discussion among the authors, referees, and other community members may cause revisions of the submission by the authors.
  7. The Action Editor makes the final acceptance decision, based on the result of the review process.
  8. A rejected submission is moved to the "recently rejected" region of the website, where it will be kept for a month, with the Action Editor's justification for the decision.

The private review process is specified in the following:

  1. The initial screening of the Executive Editor and the assignment to Action Editor are the same as in the public review process.
  2. The submission is not displayed to the public, but will be reviewed by a few referees, invited by the Action Editor. If the first round of review does not reach a final decision, follow up reviews will be arranged.
  3. The authors will be informed about the final decision, which may ask for modification and resubmission.
  4. The overall process may take longer time than public review.

The target overall review period takes three months, though multiple-round revisions and reviews will extend the period.

As long as an submission has not been accepted for publication, the author can withdraw it, and therefore remove it from public display.

For an accepted paper from either review process, the authors are responsible to deliver the camera-ready final version, which will be kept permanently at the website in the "published" region, and can be searched and indexed, while discussions on it may continue.

Once a year, the published papers are printed in hardcopy as one volume, with multiple issues.
